Saag Recipes


Classic Corn Saag

Ready in 25 minutes  |  Serves 2-3 people  |  Difficulty Easy
Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 cup corn kernels
  • 1 jar of Rupen’s® Saag Simmer Sauce
  • Sea or kosher salt, to taste
Preparation
  1. In a sauce pan over medium heat, add oil. Add corn to pan and sauté for 5 minutes.
  2. Add one jar of Rupen’s® Saag Simmer Sauce. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 5-8 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  3. Serve with garlic naan or basmati rice and enjoy!

 

Grilled Herb Saag Chicken

Ready in 25 minutes  |  Serves 2-3 people  |  Difficulty Easy
Ingredients
  • 1 pound chicken breasts, skinless and boneless, cut into 2-inch cubes, sliced in 1-inch pieces, or keep whole; prick with fork
  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • ½ jar of Rupen’s® Saag Simmer Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ¼ cup cilantro, chopped
  • Sea or kosher salt
    Preparation
    1. In a bowl, place yogurt and sauce. Mix well. Add chicken and massage pieces in marinade. For quick marination, allow to marinate for three hours in the refrigerator; or let marinate overnight for deeper flavor penetration.
    2. Heat a grill pan over medium high heat, add chicken. Grill for about 7-8 minutes on one side or until chicken browns. Flip over and continue to cook for about 5-7 minutes.
    3. Remove from heat. Finish with lemon juice and cilantro. Serve over salad greens, with rice, or naan. Substitute for butter chicken in the Butter Chicken Sandwich Wrap.

     

    Saag Shrimp Pasta with Peppers & Corn

    Ready in 25 minutes  |  Serves 2-3 people  |  Difficulty Easy
    Ingredients
    • 4 tablespoons olive oil
    • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
    • 1 cup corn kernels
    • 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
    • 1 jar of Rupen’s® Saag Simmer Sauce
    • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
    • Sea or kosher salt
    • 8 ounces cooked pasta of choice
    Preparation
    1. In a sauce pan over medium heat, add oil. Add garlic and sauté for 1 minute. Toss in corn and peppers and sauté for 5 minutes.
    2. Add one jar of Rupen’s® Saag Simmer Sauce to pan. Season shrimp with salt and add to sauce mixture in pan. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 5-8 minutes. Stir occasionally.
    3. Finish with salt to taste. Toss in cooked pasta. Serve and enjoy!

     

    Vegan Saag Pulao

    Ready in 25 minutes  |  Serves 2-3 people  |  Difficulty Easy
    Ingredients
    • 2 tablespoons oil
    • 1 bay leaf, torn into two
    • 1 tablespoon ginger, freshly grated
    • 4-5 peppercorns
    • 1 cinnamon stick, broken into 2 pieces
    • 1 cup raw basmati rice, rinsed for 1 minute
    • 1 jar of Rupen’s® Saag Simmer Sauce
    • ½ cup water
    • 1 cup frozen peas
    • Sea or kosher salt
    Preparation
    1. In a sauce pan over medium high heat, add oil. Add bay leaf, ginger, peppercorns, and cinnamon stick to oil and sauté for 3  minutes to open flavors.
    2. Add rice to pan and sauté rice for 2 minutes.
    3. Add one jar of Rupen’s® Makhani Simmer Sauce and water to sauce pan. Allow to simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    4. Finish with frozen peas and let simmer for 2 minutes. Serve and enjoy!

     

    Lamb Potato Saag

    Ready in 25 minutes  |  Serves 2-3 people  |  Difficulty Easy
    Ingredients
    • 4 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 pound of lamb meat, cubed  into 1-inch pieces
    • 1 jar of Rupen’s® Saag Simmer Sauce
    • 1 large sweet potato, cut into 1-inch cubes
    • Sea or kosher salt
    • Garlic naan or Cumin Rice (also see video)
    Preparation
    1. Place oil in a sauce pan over medium high heat. Season lamb with salt and brown for 5-7 minutes.
    2. Add one jar of Rupen’s® Saag Simmer Sauce to lamb, coating the pieces in the sauce. Let simmer for 15 minutes. Stir occasionally.
    3. Add sweet potato and allow to simmer for 20 minutes or until tender. Serve with garlic naan or cumin rice. Try with Lemon Rice for a different spin.
